On January 1, 2021, shortly after 2:00 a.m., police were dispatched to Interstate 10 near Vance Jackson Road in San Antonio, Texas. Officers arrived and found a white Dodge Charger with multiple gunshots in the driver’s side door and window. The victim, Staff Sergeant Jessica Mitchell, was transported to University Hospital, where she died from her injuries. A high-powered rifle was used in the attack.

The suspect vehicle, a red SUV, was seen driving behind Jessica, traveling northeast on Wurzbach Road around 2:08 a.m. Detectives discovered red paint on her white Dodge Charger. 

San Antonio Police Department homicide detectives believe that a person, or multiple people, in the San Angelo, Texas, area may have information about Jessica’s murder. 

At the time of her death, Jessica was an active-duty Drill Sergeant at the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
