On January 1, 2021, shortly after 2:00 a.m., police were dispatched to eastbound IH-10 and West Ave. Officers arrived and found a white Dodge Charger with multiple gunshots to the driver's side door and window. The victim, Staff Sergeant Jessica Mitchell, was transported to University Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. The possible suspect vehicle, a red SUV, was seen driving behind Mitchell's vehicle traveling northeast on Wurzbach Road around 2:08 a.m. Detectives discovered red paint on Mitchell's white Dodge Charger.  San Antonio Police Department Homicide detectives believe that a person, or multiple people in the San Angelo, Texas area, may have information about Jessica's murder. It is near where Jessica Ann Mitchell was killed off I-10 and West Avenue. The single-mother was found murdered in her car more than two years ago, and to this day no one has been arrested. San Antonio Police and the Army Criminal Investigation Division are handling the case. Special Agent with Army CID, Joseph James, said the billboard is another step to bring answers. It advertises a $50,000 reward for answers in Mitchell's murder.  "Since day one," James said. Since the start, James has been assigned to the murder case. "This case we have left no stone unturned," James said.

Jessica Ann Mitchell while assigned to Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. Mitchell was shot to death with a high-powered rifle in her vehicle on IH-10 near Vance Jackson Road, San Antonio, Texas.   Jan. 13, 2022 San Antonio Police Department Public Information Office SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The San Antonio Police Department’s Homicide Unit and the Army’s Criminal Investigations Division at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston continue to ask for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle possibly connected to the Jan. 1, 2021, murder of Army Staff Sgt. Jessica Ann Mitchell. The vehicle, believed to be a red SUV, was seen driving behind Mitchell’s vehicle northeast on Wurzbach Road around 2:08 a.m. Jan. 1, 2021. Through their investigation, detectives discovered red paint on Mitchell’s white Dodge Charger.   On Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, Mitchell was celebrating New Year’s Eve with friends at the 4th Quarter Sports Bar located at 8779 Wurzbach. Sometime after 2 am, Mitchell left the bar in her 2019 white Dodge Charger alone.   Obituary for SSG Jessica Mitchell Staff Sergeant Jessica Ann Mitchell, 30, San Antonio, Texas, passed away Friday, January 1, 2021. Jessica was born October 19, 1990, in Topeka, Kansas, to Deborah Mitchell and Mayo Mitchell, Jr. She was a member of ROTC while a student at Shawnee Heights High School and enlisted in the US Army shortly after graduating in 2009. On August 15, 2009, Jessica and Michael Prunty, Jr. were married. During her military career Jessica was stationed in Louisiana, Alaska and Germany before her current assignment in San Antonio. Jessica was highly decorated. She sought out extra training opportunities. She was a great soldier who mentored others and whose work always came first. Jessica was a good woman. She wore her heart on her sleeve and was always trying to help others. She was fun loving. Jessica’s childhood nicknames were “Dimples” and “Fat Jaw”. She loved to laugh. SAPD Asks for the Public’s Assistance on Murder.

 MEDIA ADVISORY The San Antonio Police Department’s Homicide Unit is asking for the public’s assistance on a murder that happened Friday, January 1, 2021 shortly after 2:00 a.m. Officers were dispatched to eastbound IH-10 and West Ave. for a stranded vehicle in the left lane causing a hazard. Officers arrived and found a white Dodge Charger (like the one below) with multiple gunshots to the driver's side door and window. The victim, 30-year-old Jessica Mitchell, was transported by EMS to University Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The suspect vehicle is possibly red in color and should have damage to the passenger side of the vehicle.
